In the Ghetto

As the snow flies. On a [C#m] cold and gray chicago mornin
A [D] poor little baby [E]child is born In the [A] ghetto.

[A]And his mama cries - cause if [C#m]there’s one thing that she don’t need
It’s [D] another hungry [E]mouth to feed. In the [A]ghetto.

People, don’t you [E] understand. The child needs a [D]helping [A]hand.
Or [D]hell grow to be an [E]angry young man some [A]day. Take a look at [E]you and me,
Are we too [D]blind to [A]see,
[D]Do we simply [C#m] turn our heads and [D]look the other [E]way.

Well the [A]world turns. And a [C#m]hungry little boy with a runny nose
[D]Plays in the street as the [E]cold wind blows. In the [A]ghetto.

And his [A]hunger burns

So he [C#m]starts to roam the streets at night
And he [D]learns how to steal, and he [E]learns how to fight
In the [A]ghetto

[E]Then one night in desperation a [D]young man breaks [A]away
He [D]buys a gun, [C#m] steals a car,[D]Tries to run, but he [E]don’t get far[E6-5]
A[A]And his mama cries

[C#m]And as a crowd gathers round an angry young man
[D]Face down on the street with a [E]gun in his hand. In the [A]ghetto

[A]And as her young man dies. On a [C#m]cold and gray chicago mornin,
[D]Another little baby [E]child is born. In the [A]ghetto.

(G)Now I've heard there was a (e)secret chord, that (G)David played, and it (e)pleased the Lord.
But(C) you don‘t really (D)care for music, do (G)you? (D)
It (G)goes like this, the (C)fourth, the (D)fifth the (e)minor falls, the (C)major lifts, the (D)baffled king com(B7)posing: Halle(e)lujah

Halle(C)lujah, Halle(G)lujah, Halle(C)lujah, Halle(G)lu(D)(G)jah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof. You saw her bathing on the roof,
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne, and she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before, I know this room, I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch, love is not a victory march, it‘s a cold and its a broken Hallelujah

Well maybe there's a God above, but all I've ever learned from love
Is how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night, it's not somebody who has seen the Light, it's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

You say I took the Name in vain. I dont even know the Name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word. It doesn‘t matter which you heard, the holy or the broken Hallelujah

I did my best, but it wasn‘t much, I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didnt come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of song, with nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Spurven sidder stum bag kvist

(C)Spurven (G)sidder (C)stum bag (F)kvist; (G)såmænd, om ej det (C)fyger
(C)Kålgårds(G)pilen (C)piber (F)trist  for (G)nordenblæstens (C)byger
(C)Lul-lul! rokken går  (F)støt i moders (C)stue,
(F)og jo mere (C)vinden slår, des (d)mer får (G)arnen (C)lue.

Far har røgtet kvæget ind med halmen tættet karmen,
gnedet grisens blanke skind at den må holde varmen
Lul-lul! rokken går Far mod stuen stiler,
mor en bugt på tråden slår ser op på far og smiler.

Mor kan næppe se sit spind  og næppe tråden mage;

(C)/////// (G)///////(C)///////(G)/// (C)(G)(C)/

Her ved moders gamle rok hun lærte mig at stave.
synge om "den hvide flok" og "al hans nådegave"
Lul-lul! rokken står! Med dens nyn og sange
vemodsfuldt mod hjertet går, når kvældene bli´r lange.

Who comes this night

C -- G -- F -- C || F -- G -- F -- -- G -- F
     C          F           G      a
Who comes this night, this wintry night,
   C       a    F   G
As to the lowly manger?
     C        F       G         a
The Shepards and the Kings did come
    F      C Csus4 G    G
To welcome in the stranger.

Who sends this song upon the air,
To ease the soul that's aching?
To still the cry of deep despair
And heal the heart that's breaking.

   Brother Joseph bring the light
   F                  C   G
   Fast, the night is fading.
   C             F         G      a
And who will come this wintry night
       F         C Csus4  G   C
   To where the strangers waiting?

Who comes this night, with humble heart,
To give the fullest measure
A gift of purest love to bring
What good and worthy treasure.
   Brother Joseph bring the lamb
For they are asking for him
The children come this starry night
To lay their hearts before him.

For those who would the stranger greet
Must lay their heart before him
And raise their song in voices sweet
To worship and adore him

   Brother Joseph bring the light
   Fast, the night is fading
And who will come this wintry night
   To where the strangers waiting

   Brother Joseph bring the lamb
For they are asking for him.
The children come this starry night
To lay their hearts before him.

Pure of heart this starry night
    F        C     Csus4 G  C
To lay their hearts before him.
